In addition to the ‘truth’, as it is used in the courts of law, there are at least ten more definitions in dictionaries… the following are from the world of Microsoft ‘Word’…
1. correspondence to fact or reality
2. something that corresponds to fact or reality
3. a statement that corresponds to fact or reality
4. something that is so clearly true that it hardly needs to be stated
5. a statement that is generally believed to be true
6. honesty, sincerity, or integrity
7. accuracy in description or portrayal
8. adherence to a standard or law
9. faithfulness to a person or a cause (dated)
10. U.K. accuracy of alignment, setting, position, or shape (dated)
The challenge facing humanity at this very moment (all over the World – Including in the Center of Our Universe: wher-ever we live); arriving to the common denominator – agreeing on what the truth is. As we become aware of all these different ‘slices’ of truth we might as well jump to the conclusion that if it needs all these different ‘definitions’, perhaps we need to examine and include all of them to be in whole truth and nothing, but The Truth, and to live in that truth all the time before we can put our hand on the bible and utter the words, so help me GOD! (in Christian Science the word, Truth is used to refer to God)
As we watch the leaders of the free world struggling for peace, it is so transparently obvious that these words are mysteriously intertwined. It is impossible to be peaceful/truthful when bullets and bombs are directed at your heart. To achieve peace, we need to be ready to tell the truth.
When there is no peace, forget about God, forget about Truth, forget about Divinity, forget about everything else. The first requirement is peace.
As we look at the ‘definitions’ for truth, though most of them appear to be ‘straight–forward’, we can still see that even the ‘facts’ can be interpreted differently and the ‘accuracy’ of our ‘reality’ can be called to question.
It is number 6. (honesty, sincerity, or integrity) that really needs to be explored with the commitment of an earnest spelunker of the soul.
In defining these qualities in the human condition, we discover a further need to look at candor, sincerity, morality; to the extent our consciousness allows us to discern the principals of right and wrong as they govern standards of sexual or general behavior.
Candor suggests innocence in intention – so now we are looking into our motives – here is where we begin to get deep into the heart of the matter, the essence of human character; the ability to feel humane and altruistic feelings with the capacity for courage and determination… so help me GOD.
Now we’re getting down to it – it is obvious to all of us by now, that there is no agreement as to who or what god is. In conflict, both sides claim to have God on their sides and, that God has somehow asked them to fight against their foe.
This is used by all the leaders (political and religious), who cannot take responsibility for their own action; to perpetuate war for peace…
William Bennett, the ex-drug-czar, during an interview on CNN, actually said: ‘…give war a chance’.
As the fundamentalists within all religions are fortifying their positions and digging in their heels while leveling their fire-arms at each other; forgetting about the very essence of the message from their prophet of God:
The Golden Rule.
-- a world religion characterized by the belief that Jesus Christ was sent to the world by God to save humanity, and who tries to follow his teachings and example: based on or relating to a belief in Jesus Christ as the son of God and Messiah, and acceptance of his teachings – ‘… love one another as I have loved you…’
-- a world religion or philosophy based on the teaching of the Buddha and holding that a state of enlightenment can be attained by suppressing worldly desires…
-- the religion of India and the oldest of the worldwide religions, characterized by a belief in reincarnation and the essential unity of forms and theories.
This is fervently rejected by Christianity, though we accept resurrection and many are ‘waiting’ for the second coming…
--- who is to say he hasn’t been here over and over again to show us the way – the way to love. The truth is, we’ve been struggling with good and evil; war and peace for so long we don’t even remember the root cause.
It is thus that our humanity is floundering in the sea of storms picking and choosing from the overstocked a-la-carte menu that satisfies the choice of morality of the moment.
Could the answer be simple?
In our society everything is competitive – our sports heroes have been elevated to God status – corporations are continually waging war against one another and the executives can’t be paid enough - everybody wants to be on the top of the heap; by now it’s a ‘heap’ of carcasses.
There is no such thing as healthy competition – we just can’t admit to greed:
-- an overwhelming desire to have more of something than is actually needed.
… and all of us who are continuing to struggle as we look at our own motives and actions…
All the strife points to greed – it doesn’t matter what you call it – at some point, we are going to have to come face to face with our own greed, fueled by the fear of not having enough.
With clear vision we can ascend our ignorance and fear – educate ourselves to the ‘way’ of love – giving and sharing – ‘forgive them for they know not what they do’… for history has proven over and over again: ‘live by the gun, …’ - we will parish unless we come together in and create a new community; a community of enthusiastic cooperation, not competition; a community living in TRUTH -- a TINKDOM of HEARTISTS living in EVERLAND
Peace to our minds – Love to our hearts…
